Dr. Deahl and his staff are devoted to patient education so that you have the knowledge to share in the decisions on how to best maintain your occlusion and smile.

Your periodontal health is very important, since the long term condition of your teeth and any restorative treatment depend on stable, healthy gums and supporting bone. Every patient's periodontal diagnosis is unique and Dr. Deahl strongly believes in the design, mutually agreed upon treatment plan and implementation of a program that will most effectively address the needs of the patient.

Dentistry is rapidly evolving into “oral health medicine” based on the recent research suggesting a connection from gum health to overall health. Diabetes, heart disease, stroke and pre-term low weight babies have shown a relationship to periodontal disease.
Articles featured in Time Magazine, Readers Digest, The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have showcased these important issues.
Patient’s homecare such as flossing, using a Sonicare electric toothbrush, prescription fluoride toothpaste, antimicrobial rinses, FDA approved Colgate Total toothpaste and periodontal screenings with your dental care provider will give you the best chance for a healthy smile.

Oral cancer is far too often discovered in late stage development, the primary reason for the consistently high death rate. Oral cancer treatment often results in disfiguring effects on patients, and can seriously compromise their quality of life. Early detection and diagnosis can make a tremendous difference in life expectancy; oral cancer is 90% curable when found in its early stages. Unfortunately, 70% of oral cancers are diagnosed in the late stages, III and IV, leading to a five-year survival rate of 57%.

THE DEADLY STATISTICS

Every hour of every day, one American dies of oral cancer.
The mortality rate associated with oral cancer has not improved significantly in the last 40 years.
The death rate in the United States for oral cancer is higher than that of cervical cancer, Hodgkin's disease, cancer of the brain, liver, testes, kidney, or ovary.
More than 30,000 Americans will receive an oral cancer diagnosis this year. In five years, only 57% will still be alive.
27% of oral cancer victims do not use tobacco or alcohol and have no other lifestyle risk factors.

Periodontal Disease Treatment - A patient friendly treatment of periodontal disease using the most modern technology.

How Does It Work?
Laser technology can aid in the elimination of infection and heal gums which otherwise could lead to early tooth loss.

Plaque, Bio-Film and calculus, associated with inflammation and occasional bleeding gums are removed from the root surface of the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler.

Once removed, a small amount of light energy from a laser is directed through a tiny fiber, which is gently place between the gum and tooth. The light energy aids in reducing the bacteria associated with disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, the body can heal the area naturally.

Does It Hurt?
Although the procedure itself can be virtually painless, the area may be anesthetized for your comfort. In this way the laser can be precisely directed for treatment.

How Long Does It Take?
The initial treatment will focus on microsonic scaling to remove the biofilm. Then, the laser portion of the treatment will be performed. Depending on the severity of the periodontal disease, treatment may be accomplished in as few as two therapies or may be extended to multiple therapies to bring the disease under control.

The remarkable speed of the laser, the reduced anesthesia and the increased comfort makes this therapy very attractive to patients. It should be noted that insurance companies only pay for a portion of this treatment. Please discuss your coverage options with your insurance company prior to treatment. Patients are encouraged to take care of the need as soon as possible to reduce further damage to your gums, teeth and overall health.

Our practice philosophy is that silver/mercury fillings (amalgam) are no longer the best restorations to place in your teeth. Since amalgam fillings contain mercury, think of your existing amalgam fillings like a thermometer. When you eat or drink something hot, the amalgam filling will expand. When you eat or drink something cold, the amalgam will contract and over time this movement of the filling can crack the tooth therefore creating a new problem. Instead, he uses a tooth colored composite resin which bonds to the tooth and enhances the tooth structure. Utilizing the most advanced bonding systems available, these restorations actually strengthen the teeth.

With the advent of "bonding", Dr. Deahl is able to deliver incredible dentistry that was not even imagined 5 years ago. Cosmetic dentistry combines the best art and science to create beautiful dental restorations that not only improve your appearance but also improve function, strength and longevity of your teeth. Dr. Deahl offers cosmetic evaluations to his patients. This allows him to evaluate your teeth and discuss your needs, wants and the best way to improve the appearance of your teeth. Today, a terrific smile is available for everyone! This level of care was once reserved for only the rich and famous. Today, our patients come from all walks of life college professors, insurance agents, mortgage brokers, students…and you.
